Torre Roura is a late 19th-century modernist residence in Calonge, overlooking the Pla de Calonge and the Mediterranean Sea. Commissioned by the Roura family—closely linked to the region’s cork industry—the house has long been an emblematic landmark on the Costa Brava, bearing witness to the cultural and economic history of the area.
This emblematic construction of lordly character was founded by the cork industrialist Enric Lluís Roura i Vilaret in 1896. It was built on the site of an old farmhouse with a defense tower that, due to its strategic location on a natural hill in the middle of the plain, served as a link between the coastal towers (the Valentina Tower and the Pareras Tower) and those inland.
With nearly 1,600 m², the estate features iconic rooms, soaring ceilings, a grand exterior staircase, and original details such as Nolla mosaic floors, original wallpaper, and hand-painted ceilings, all distinctive hallmarks of Mediterranean modernism. Its tower, once used to generate electricity for the property, remains the most recognizable symbol of Torre Roura and a reminder of its pioneering spirit.
Surrounded by more than sixteen hectares of local pine trees, orchards, olive groves, and Mediterranean woodland, the estate is now a protected heritage site, valued for its architecture, history, and landscape. The land continues to shape daily life, offering a quiet dialogue between cultivated gardens and wild woodland.
Its characteristic silhouette is visible from the entire valley and constitutes one of the most popular visual landmarks in the region, being popularly known as the Giant of the Pla.

Torre Roura has always been in the Roura family branch, and is now led by Lorena Canals Roura, whose great-grandfather was Enric Lluís Roura. Lorena maintains the family legacy, together with her husband Jose Manuel Román and her daughters, Olimpia and Carolina, founders of Oli&Carol. Together, they bring textile artistry and sustainable innovation into a shared vision rooted in creativity, nature, and mindful living.
Lorena, after more than 25 years with her own textile project Lorena Canals, contributes the artistic soul of the project through creative retreats, textile installations, and exclusive happenings connected to her nearby atelier. Oli&Carol’s presence grows through regenerative initiatives across the land, from soil care to tree planting and biodiversity, embedding sustainability into everyday practice.
At the heart of this vision is the Textile Hub, a space dedicated to artistic exploration, contemporary textile practice, and creative exchange.
